The Philadelphian Working Men’s Club

Sheffield’s very own, legendary Philadelphian Working Men’s Club recently celebrated its centenary.  In its life of over 100 years the club has provided many stories that have gone down in Clubland folklore.

Among this clubs contributions to history are:-

The club managed to survive closure many years ago because the Committee at that time managed to raise sufficient funds to clear their debts.  How did they do this? They sold the same snooker table to the brewery three times!

Apparently there have been repeated sightings of the ghosts of long gone Committee members. Most of these have been by cleaning staff when the club was quiet but at least one sighting has been reported by a Trustee.....

There will be many more claims to fame - not forgetting that the TV documentary about “The Full Monty” was filmed at the club.
